Ink Stain Removal
Some ballpoint ink stain removal can be accomplished by sponging clean using alcohol. If this ink stain removal technique doesn’t completely remove the stain, try acetone (except on acetate). If acetone doesn’t work, try amyl acetate. The other alternative is to use a bleach which is safe for the fabric. To remove a ballpoint ink stain from leather garments, rub petroleum jelly on the stain. Leave for several days, then wipe clean.
Caution: don’t put the item in the dryer or hot iron, as this can set the stain.
Ballpoint Pen Ink Stain Removal
- Apply lukewarm glycerine. If the fabric is strong enough, tamp with a brush or spoon. Blot, pressing hard on stain. Continue until ink stain is removed. Flush with water.
- Apply mild detergent solution with several drops of ammonia. Continue to tamp. Flush with water.
- If ink stain remains, use either chlorine bleach or oxygen bleach. If using chlorine bleach, apply to ink stain and don’t allow to remain on fabric for more than 2 minutes. Flush with water after bleach application. Apply vinegar solution to remove excess chlorine, the flush with water. If using oxygen bleach, allow to soak overnight.
