I Saw it on the Internet

By Corey Tournet August 24, 2018

The Internet is a great source of useful information. At the same time, one of the biggest challenges is to figure out what’s true. Also as a company, we’ve learned that if you want to do great things, you have to keep an open mind and be open to criticism. At the same time, there is a need to point out things that have no factual basis.

Case in point: there is an unfounded rumor going around (mostly on YouTube) saying that our spin dryers damage the clothes and put holes in them, stretch the clothes, and that RPMs above a certain threshold damage clothes. To our knowledge the comments are all coming from one individual, such as:

“I’ve had mine sense January. And here is what I think about the Spin dryer…… I washed my clothes with Panda mini Washing machine. Centrifugal Spin dryer. I started noticing holes. stitches ripped,I tried to figure out why this was happening to me. I got another hole couple of days ago. I think 3500 RPM is to high on some fabrics. Mini Spin dryer spins 1600 RPM that might be better and not as harsh. Speed setting would be good 3rd generation.Amazon has rated really high. I use it long term.”

We’ve mostly ignored these comments, until we noticed that quite a few potential customers emailed us concerned this might be an issue. If people understand how the product works, and decide it’s not for them, that’s fine. We actually encourage people who are undecided to ask more questions, rather than pushing for the sale. But we don’t want people to make their decision based on factually incorrect information.

Spin dryers have been around for many years, and used by millions of people around the world. If they damaged clothes, it would have been discovered many years ago. Most of the famous washing machine brands such as LG, Whirlpool etc. all have some washing machine models above the spin speeds the above commenter has mentioned in other places. Also, it’s interesting that he never considered that it might be the washing machine or something else causing issues. We aren’t going to jump to conclusions and say it’s the washing machine, but it’s something that ought to be considered and tested. We have tested some mini washing machines that do rip and tear the clothes over the years.
