Above Ground Septic Tank Information
Above ground tanks are seldom used and should be avoided for 2 reasons:
- - The wastewater should exit the house via gravity to allow for proper separation and storage of the solids in the tank. If you need to use a pump to deliver the wastewater to the tank the solids will be ground-up by the pump into smaller pieces and these smaller solids will not settle in the tank as readily as larger solids. These finer solids will pass through the tank to the distribution portion of the system and cause plugging of the pipes and the treatment media.
- - Above ground tanks will be subject to the elements. The main problem will be freezing in colder climates. The ultra violet light from the sun can also cause the tank to deteriorate.
